The Hotel La Palma is located in a suggestive location on Lake Maggiore, overlooking the mountains of Stresa and the Borromean islands, with a 360 ° view of a breathtaking panorama. A privileged observation point is the terrace on the seventh floor which houses a suggestive panoramic swimming pool, a large solarium, comfortable loungers with elegant white gazebos for relaxation and a cocktail-bar area. Due to its well-being and functionality characteristics, the swimming pool is a continuation of the SPA located on the floor below.
The structure is divided into two levels and consists of a large expanse of brushed and polished ivory travertine that rises and lowers to create seats and accommodate the pool: a first lower level, entirely covered in stone, presents seats and hydromassage beds on which the customer can sit and, during the hydromassage, enjoy the view of the lake. A second, deeper level faces directly onto the Stresa skyline, creating a spectacular infinity effect thanks to the cascading infinity edge, designed with the Wiesbaden system .
The glass parapets also contribute to accentuate the effect of continuity, which surround the perimeter of the terrace without interrupting the panorama with disturbing elements and fully enjoy this natural spectacle. Generally speaking, the main difficulty in building a swimming pool on a mezzanine floor of a building is not to place an excessive burden on its supporting structure. Furthermore, the site itself, if located on the upper floors, presents considerable difficulties in transferring the materials, not to mention that the duration of the work itself influences the activity of the accommodation facility in the rest of the building. The architectural solution adopted in this situation was specifically designed to overcome these difficulties, avoiding both the problems relating to the weight of the pool and the transport of materials and the duration of the construction site. For this purpose, Preformati Italia created a structure entirely in self-extinguishing sintered expanded polystyrene (EPS AE) with high density , smoothed and reinforced with glass fiber. Thanks to a careful planning phase and, above all, to the meticulous preparation at the foot of the work, it was possible to significantly reduce the processing times and manage the execution of the works on the 7th floor of the hotel without creating further inconvenience.
This approach to work allows to solve any structural node, according to the usual professional methodology developed by the specialized team of Preformati Italia, starting from the cutting of the EPS elements up to the installation of the product. Computer processed and made without the use of molds, the result is a finished preform with perfect and regular surfaces for a state of the art installation of the finishing material. The structure, in light material, has limited loads on the floors and is also easy to move on site for a quick, clean and quiet installation. The poolside systems were pre-installed in the company by qualified personnel, thus reducing the time on site. The swimming pool, measuring 10.92 x 3.71 m (for 112 cm high), was built with two cascading walls and 4 hydromassage beds which, thanks to the fruitful collaboration with Starpool for the entire system, complete the construction, subsequently assembled and waterproofed by the Preformati Italia team. The speed in the execution of the entire work and the brilliantly overcome difficulties in the construction of the swimming pool on the 7th floor of the hotel represent a won challenge: thanks to this, the swimming pool today presents itself in all its beauty to hotel guests. inviting them to appreciate the immensity of the lake, comfortably immersed in the sunny stretch of water.
